Search Submit Reporting
Your Inktomi
click-thru reports are designed to give you detailed
information that can assist your ongoing search engine
marketing needs in many ways.
All
reports are based on date range and provide the following
detailed stats:
Total Clicks to
your site from Inktomi for the date range. Inktomi
click-thru reports include data from all Inktomi
partners. You should monitor your own search referral
data by analyzing your web server logs.
Total Queries, or
actual keyword phrases resulting in clicks, are reported
in detail because an individual user at a search
engine can often generate multiple clicks to your
site from a single query. Think about it, have you
ever made a query at a search engine, clicked on
a search listing, go back to the main results, click
on another search listing, go back again to the main
results and click on the original listing one more
time. This is an example of one query resulting in
multiple clicks to a single site.
Perhaps
one of the most interesting and enlightening reports
provided is the Unique Queries report,
accompanied by the Unique Query %.
Our customers are always amazed at how many different
combinations of keywords will be used by searchers
to find their website. It is common to see the percentage
of Unique Queries be over 50% and
not even unusual to see the Unique Query
% get as high as 75%-90%. This is normally
a function of how many pages you have included in
the Inktomi index.
For keyword queries resulting in
clicks to your site, The Average Rank for
each keyword phrase is reported by Inktomi. This
ranking is your Average Rank within
Inktomi's pure results and not necessarily the results
of Inktomi's
Web Search Partners (HotBot, Overture,…)
Current Indexed Pages is
the total number of pages that are currently subscribed
to the Inktomi index. Visited Pages is
reported separately because many clients will often
have a percentage of pages that are not getting clicks
from the search engines.
It
is important to know which pages in your site are
getting few to no clicks and which pages are receiving
a large amount of clicks. This data is crucial for
future planning. As a way to judge overall performance
of the campaign, the % of Pages Viewed is
an excellent indicator of how your entire group of
pages are performing in the search engines. If your
web pages are not receiving clicks from search engines
powered by Inktomi, it is highly probable that they
are also not receiving clicks from engines not powered
by Inktomi (Google).
Top Performing URLs and Top Performing
Keywords are also a part of your Inktomi click-thru
reports. All details in the reports can be clicked
on to drill further into the data. It can be sliced
and re-sliced the way you like to see it. All report
views also include an Export Feature so
that data can be extracted and used for other search
engine marketing purposes.
Drilling down into the reporting
details reveals a gold mine of keyword data that
will have relevance and depth like you've never seen.
